Eat like Jesus, go to HeavenTM.  Also, a few reasons why Creation Science fails it.  And now for my HGTV weekend, after these commercials for Home Depot (dessert poll inside!).

So I finished putting in the beds around the house.  All the little annoying angles where the gutters are and corners that you can never get a mower into are landscaped.  Plus a few other spots away from the house that were equally annoying.  I watched way too much HGTV when I was a kid so all the beds are curvy and swooping.  Good feng shui.  It looks better than the shite jobs the landscaping companies do in my neighborhood.  Cheaper too.

It's actually not that hard either.  After I figured out the shape of the beds by laying out a hose, I dug out all the sod and loosened up the top layer of soil.  Then I shaped the earth a little and put down landscaping fabric.  A little free mulch from the city DPW that is ever so conveniently two minutes from my house and I was done.  Total cost: $45 for the weed blocking fabric.  All I have to do now is buy some plants.

I also rebuilt the shelves in the bathroom closet.  It's a huge closest that had one freakin shelf in it when I moved in.  It had a cloths hanging rod in it so I think the old lady who used to live here stored clothing in it.  I was talking to the old lady who lives next door--getting all the good neighborhood gossip--and she said the lady who lived in my house loved to go cloths shopping.  I guess so.  So anyway, I took out the cloths hanging rod, put in four new shelves and painted everything white.  It's so clean and bright in there and I have so much storage space.  Total cost: $30 for the wood lumber* and paint.

* I got a $10 discount because the checkout person at Home Depot didn't feel like looking up the cost of the wood.  Hurrah for the lazy employee discount.

To top off the weekend I made Chocolate Chip Cookies last night.  First time evar and they rock.  I've always been an immediate-sustenance-only cook.  I want to start making desserts and breads this summer (zucchini, banana, etc.).  I wonder if cookies are on the Jesus Diet?

I guess I should shower now.  I smell.

that's not how you make a pound cake.
it's called a pound cake because you take one pound each of butter, eggs, cake flour and sugar.
my loyalist grandmother also forbade the use of vanilla extract in 'proper' pound cake, it's just not good british cookery.
for flavouring, instead try the zest of half a lemon, 1/4 cup of sherry and a teaspoon of nutmeg. this gives it a much more complex flavour.

otherwise your directions are accurate.
this cake keeps well, you can just wrap it in some foil and store it in the cupboard for weeks and weeks.
