God I've meant to post one of these like 100 times.  School, job, Indians, water, stalking--it's all inside.  Let the fast-forward life-recap begin!


I got a degree!  Yeah me!  They even sent me my special piece of paper to make it official.  (The special, $20,000 piece of paper, that is.)  When you think about it, $20k isn't too bad for a four-year degree from a private, U.S. university.  Especially when tuition alone at said university is around $24k/year.

Ok, enough rationalizing, we must be moving on (we have so much more to cover)...

I got a job!  I am now the fearless leader of the Web 2.0 AJAX-enabled synergistic launch-the-company-into-the-21st-century project.  I have one year to pull a miracle out of my ass, or... look at the shiny Web 2.0!!  Oohh!   Ahhh!

The best part is my starting salary is more than what my father was making when he retired.  Screw you, pops.

I got a car!  2003 Camry.  I rule!  Well, ok, maybe it's not the sexiest car, but it's a safe choice for a responsible buyer.  It's just nice having a car that doesn't stall every time it rains... or gets humid... or cloudy...

I got a laptop!  MacBook, baby.  Now I can stop using that dirty Lunix stuff.  Friggin' communists.

Ok, so maybe I'll keep the Linux fileserver, network gateway, etc.  Just as long as it's not on my desktop.  Because, as we all know, Linux just isn't ready for the desktop.

I got a, err, look at all the water!

I went to Niagara Falls for the first time, ever.  I've lived ~2hrs away from the falls for over 20 years and yet never made it there.  That was silly, so I fixed that problem over Labor Day.  All I can say is: look at all the Indian people!  What the heck?  Oh, and all that water was really cool too.

Related comment: I'm ~1.5hrs away from georgeha.  I'm also within striking distance of Toronto and CBB.  Actually, Boston is within striking distance too, but not quite as close.  I'm not really sure the point of this paragraph.  On that note...

I gots to go!

It's been fun, but it's time to pack up and head home.  After I pick up some Thai food, of course.  And hit up the local IP Thieves aka Library for some DVDs.  Have a nice one!

p.s. I've never been to roc.ny.us either.  What the heck is wrong with me?

p.p.s. I lied!  I did go there, but I was ~5 and don't remember much.  We went to visit a family friend who worked at Xerox.  All I remember about the trip was the guy had a Dust Buster and I thought that was the coolest thing in the world.  Ah, to be 5 again...

...at least I have debt on a CompSci degree, instead of say, English.

Actually, one of my friends has a degree in English from the same school I went to.  I tease her frequently... and then she reminds me what she makes as an investment analyst (hint: $$$).  I guess nothing beats good old-fashion hard work (and a silly piece of paper).

Congratulations on your little piece of expensive paper and your premeptive grave-dancingly good salary (not to imply that you would necessarily dance on your father's grave, but that, hypothetically, you'd have some ammo for your pride if that were to be your 'druthers).

I also just achieved the use of a brand new used vehicle from the same period in history. I don't have a MacBook, though. The next new Apple laptop goes to Littlestar, because hers got...toddlered.

I do not, however, have any expensive pieces of paper. And I doubt I ever will, which pretty much pooches any hopes I had of being a swank widower flirting with the bouncy-bouncy freshmen girls in the Introduction to Applied Quantum Chemotheraputic Sex Therapy class I'd be teaching at the University of the Moon.

Ah, the future!

And if you're ever bound for Bostonia, keep us in the loop. If you don't mind hanging out with old people. For example, cleaning my home office the other day, I actually found *my* piece of parchment, which I hadn't seen since I moved in here, I'm pretty sure. And that's been 10 years ago; by then the subsequent degree was more than a decade old. Hm... I wonder where *that* piece of paper is?
