Movin' on down.

Also, a poll: number of cities you've lived in?

I recently did this:

It was amazingly painless.

I flew down to Raleigh with a list of houses lined up for viewing.  Praise Zeus for online rental listings.  The second place I looked at was perfect.  I never make impulse decisions but I jumped on the place right away and offered to sign a lease on the spot.  The owners are incredible nice--always a good thing--and everything else about the place fits my needs perfectly.

I'm nicely settled in and enjoying exploring a new city.  I lived in the same city for over twenty years so picking up and moving over 600 miles is a completely new experience.

So far, I'm enjoying:

  1. No snow
  2. Lots of technology (compared to Syracuse)
  3. Lots of activities, especially of the outdoor variety

I'm not saying I'll stay here forever, but I suspect I'll remain happy for the duration, however long that is.

I would just like to say that in-car GPS is totally fucking awesome.  I haven't been this happy with a new gadget since I got my first cell phone.  How the hell did I survive without one of these?

In closing: watch the first video on this page.  Um, yeah.

Watch the other videos if you have time to kill.  Also, when did Snoop Dogg grow an afro?  Yikes.

Enjoy the triangle, there's lots of Yankees there.

kidding about all the Yankees.

I met a woman from Rochester a few weeks back.  And I ran into a guy from Oswego just yesterday.  It's 1865 all over again.

aka Confinement Area for Relocated Yankees.

I spent an academic year there, I loved the food, missed the weather and liberals.

I don't miss by Vertical Frankenstein (2.00 / 0) #6 Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 11:19:18 AM EST
the weather.  I was never cut out for upstate winters.

There's a lot of liberals down here.  The ratio doesn't feel much different than Syracuse.  I have a Democratic Congressman here in Raleigh but in Syracuse my rep was Republican.

and I went to grad school in Raleigh (at NC State). I loved the Triangle--especially compared to the more rural part of the state (near Wilmington) where I grew up. Enjoy it, and the next time ana and I are in Raleigh, we should get together for a coffee or something.

Rural anywhere by Vertical Frankenstein (4.00 / 1) #3 Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 10:17:15 AM EST
is always sketchy.

I was on the NC State campus a few weeks ago for a free lecture on environmentally sustainable buildings.

the next time ana and I are in Raleigh, we should get together for a coffee or something.

Awesome.
